Homestay accommodations are simple but comfortable traditional Ladakhi rooms. Typically, you'll have a private or shared room with basic amenities: comfortable bed with warm blankets, shared or attached bathroom (some with Western toilets, some traditional), solar-heated water for bathing, and common areas to interact with the family. The focus is on authenticity rather than luxury. Rooms are clean, warm, and reflect traditional Ladakhi architecture with wood-carved windows and colorful decorations.
Bathroom facilities vary: some homestays have attached Western-style bathrooms, while others may have shared traditional facilities. Most have solar-heated water for bathing. Privacy is respected, but remember you're living in a family home. Families are accustomed to hosting guests and understand the need for privacy. If you have specific requirements, please inform us during booking so we can match you with an appropriate family.
All meals are home-cooked traditional Ladakhi cuisine prepared by your host family using local, often organic ingredients. Typical meals include: breakfast (butter tea, bread, eggs), lunch (thukpa - noodle soup, rice, vegetables), dinner (momos, stews, local bread). We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and most dietary restrictions if informed in advance. Please communicate any allergies or restrictions during booking.
Most host families we work with have at least one family member who speaks basic to good English. Our families are experienced in hosting international guests and are excellent at non-verbal communication. We also provide a local guide for scheduled activities. Learning a few Ladakhi phrases will be appreciated and enhance your experience!
Small gifts from your home country are always appreciated but not expected. Useful items for the family (school supplies for children, kitchen utensils, warm clothing) or something symbolic from your culture are good choices. Avoid expensive gifts as they may cause discomfort. Your presence, respect, and engagement are the most valuable gifts you can offer.
100% of your homestay payment goes directly to the host family. We only charge for coordination and guide services. This provides sustainable income for rural families, helps preserve traditional lifestyles, encourages cultural pride, and supports local agriculture. Additionally, we contribute 5% of our commission to community development projects in the villages where we operate.

In a world of commercial tourism, our Ladakh homestay tours offer something truly special - genuine human connections and authentic cultural immersion. Here's why our homestay experiences stand out:
Our homestays are carefully selected to provide genuine cultural exchange opportunities. You don't just observe Ladakhi culture - you live it. Participate in daily activities, learn traditional skills, share meals, and form real connections with your host family. This is travel that transforms both visitors and hosts.
By choosing homestays, you directly support local families and communities. Your tourism dollars stay in the village, supporting traditional livelihoods and encouraging cultural preservation. We work with families who are committed to maintaining their cultural heritage while sharing it with respectful visitors.
These tours are designed for learning and personal growth. Whether it's understanding sustainable farming practices, learning traditional crafts, or gaining spiritual insights from nunnery visits, every activity is educational. Many guests describe our homestay tours as life-changing experiences that broaden perspectives.
Unlike group tours, our homestay experiences are intimate and personalized. We match guests with families based on interests and preferences. Whether you're interested in farming, crafts, cooking, or spirituality, we find the perfect family for your immersion experience.
We follow strict ethical guidelines ensuring that our homestay program benefits both guests and hosts equally. Families receive fair compensation, guests receive authentic experiences, and the community benefits from sustainable tourism that respects their culture and environment.
