The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is hopeful of opening Himachal and Ladakh for domestic tourism as soon as the safety and hygiene protocols are ready. An assurance in this regard was given today (May 27) to a travel trade delegation by Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism and Culture. A decision to this effect will be taken in consultation with the states soon, the minister informed the delegation.
The delegation included Presidents of IATO, ADTOI, ATOAI and OTOAI. “The Minister informed us that Himachal and Ladakh will be opened for tourists as soon as the states grant permission,” said Captain Swadesh Kumar, President of Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI). “We want all the destinations, which are relevant to Adventure Tourism, like Himachal, Uttarakhand, Leh Ladakh, and the Northeastern States to be opened as early as possible,” he said. Kumar said that the delegation has assured the government that they would all co-operate on following safety and hygiene protocols. The government is in the process of framing a comprehensive Covid-19 hygiene protocol and the same will be ready in a week’s time, he said.
