Set in one of the most scenic backgrounds a traveler will ever come across, Dhankar is a surreal village situated at the height of 3894 metres above sea level. The main attraction of the village is a monastery complex that gives spectacular a completely new definition. The Dhankar Gompa (Dhankar Monastery) is built on the top of a huge mound that overlooks the convergence of the Spiti and Pin rivers.
An incredible 1000 year-old structure in the middle of a cold and arid desert, the Dhankar Monastery contains an amazing statue of Vairocana (Dhayan Buddha), consisting of 4 figures that is a major attraction for all visitors.
