Built in one of the most scenic valleys of Bhutan, Gangtey Monastery is a very important spiritual place as this is the only Nyingmapa monastery on the western side of the Black Mountains in the Phobjikha Valley. The temple gets a visit every year from a rare migratory bird called the Black-necked crane that circles the Monastery three times when it arrives and the once more before returning to Tibet in the summers.
