Built near the town of Kaza in Himachal Pradesh, the Sakya Tangyud Gompa is built like a fortified military structure on the edge of a mountain with significantly tall mud walls. This Monastery is unique in the Spiti Valley as its one of the only two established Sakye sect Gompas. It is believed that earlier, the Monastery was closer to the Hikkim village but due to the 1975 earthquake it got completely destroyed and had to be moved to its current location.
